Frequently Asked Findum Questions

Which wireless carriers does Findum support? What cellular phones are supported?
Findum supports Sprint and Nextel phones. We will be adding more carriers soon. Please click here to see the  list of supported phones

What are the computer system requirements for using the online application?
Findum requires a Windows based PC and a recently updated version of Internet Explorer. The online location application currently does not work with Apple based PCs.

How much does the Findum service cost?
The cost of the Findum service is dependant upon how many times you would like to locate the cellular phone each month. Standard, Plus, and High Usage plans all provide access to the same interface; the only difference is the number of times each month that you pre-pay to locate the phone. Locates are totaled at the end of each billing month. Please click here to see pricing information.

What additional fees must I pay to my wireless carrier for this service?
Sprint users do not pay any additional fees to Sprint! Nextel users must subscribe to a Nextel data plan, which is an additional $12.99/month

Why are Sprint users not required to pay an additional fee for this service?
Sprint users incur no additional cost because the network usage fees are incurred by Orion Security, and are included in the Findum service.

What other fees are associated with Findum?
There are none! There are no activation fees, cancellation fees, minimum contract length, or any other hidden fees. There is only the monthly service fee.

How accurate is the location information?

The accuracy of the location is dependent upon several factors. If the phone has a clear view of the sky and is in excellent cellular coverage, it typically returns an exact map location and approximate street address. For instance, if the phone is at 330 Main Street , it will show the correct location on the map, but it may return an address of 340 Main Street . This is due to the translation between the longitude and latitude coordinates and street address.

In extreme impaired environments, the service will provide its best approximate location. This accuracy varies greatly; however, compare this with competing products which are unable to provide ANY location information without GPS signal.

All location information is provided with an accuracy gauge, displaying the accuracy of every location. Also, the application allows you to set custom locations to improve accuracy. Thus, if you are consistently receiving the same low accuracy location point when the phone is at a given point of interest, you can save that location so that it reflects the point on interest.

How do I sign up?
It is very easy to sign up! Click the purchase button above, and fill in the form. There are no stores to visit, and you account can be setup over the wireless networks.

How does account setup work?
We will first send you a confirmation e-mail informing you that we have received your order. Next, you will receive a text message on the phone, asking if you will permit Orion Security to locate this cellular phone. You must either hit "Accept" to that text message, or log onto your Sprint My PCS account to accept the invitation. Soon after, we will provide you with your username and password and you can begin to use Findum. This process may take up to 3 business days to complete.

Why does account setup take up to 3 business days to complete?
Account setup is a cooperative process between Orion Security, Sprint, and our partners. Also, it is necessary to ensure that the subscriber has the authority to locate that particular phone. Privacy is our number one concern.

How does it work?
Findum utilizes the GPS satellite system and cellular networks to determine the longitude, latitude, altitude, and speed of the cellular phone. That information is then communicated back to the Orion Security server, where it is converted into map form.

Where does this service work?

The service works anywhere in the United States where there is cellular phone service for your respective carrier. The service however does require that the phone is capable of receiving a text message. Thus, it may not work it some analogue or roaming areas.

Will I be able to locate the phone if it is on a call?
Yes, with Sprint phones. However, on Nextel phones, you will not be able to locate the telephone if it is on a call.

Can the phone be located if it is turned off?
No, the phone must be turned on to be located.

Why does my credit card bill say Orion Security LSP?
Orion Security LSP is the company that provides the Findum service.

How do I know that my privacy is protected?

How do location logs work?
Each time the phone reports its location, such information is stored in logs for up to 30 days. At anytime you can retrieve a history of past location information.

How do zone alerts work?
You are able to establish a zone predicated upon a particular street address or longitude/latitude coordinates. You also set the radius of the zone to define the size of the zone. Zone alerts are produced from the recorded location information. Thus, you will only receive an alert after the device has been located.

Location logs and zone alerts seem too complex, I only want to locate the phone?
This is not a problem! The online interface is set up so that location information is easily retrieved. All other features are stored under special menus. The application has been designed to balance simplicity with power.
